Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental treatment with two main methods of teeth whitening as follows:

- New generation laser teeth whitening
- Opalescence

It is unusual to travel to see the dentist in Hungary just for teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is generally used in conjunction with other dental treatment that a dental patient may be having whilst in Hungary.

Discoloration of teeth can be caused by various reasons, such as :

- Smoking
- Consumption of colored food and drinks
- Medication
- Naturally inherited color
- Age

As the layer of enamel on the teeth is constantly getting thinner and thinner as times goes by, so the yellowish dentine that lies bellow becomes more and more visible. Whether the dentist recommends a bleaching kit or a laser system, the precise composition of each manufacturer will vary considerably but will consist of hydrogen peroxide.

Products are normally formulated to have a Ph value so that it is non acidic.
Results can be achieved more rapidly with laser than a home kit. The main difference between laser and opalescence is that laser systems have an active ingredient which accelerates the process under a light.

New Generation Laser Teeth Whitening

You may have heard of the following brand names like Zoom Advance Power, Zoom & Zoom2, Britesmile. They all generally work on a similar principle by using the most-up-to date technology available, which is a safe fast and effective dental whitening procedure.
It is ideal for those dental patients who are looking for immediate results. The treatment is simple and painless.

It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums, and after that the dentist place the Dental Whitening Gel on the teeth and the light activates the whitening agent.
The dentist will advise how many shades lighter you should achieve. Even though these systems can take your teeth ten shades lighter there is a danger of going too far. Typically two or three shades is advisable on average

The best result can be achieved in the case of discoloration of the teeth caused by smoking and consumption of coffee, tea, wine. It is highly effective and a reliable method.
Hungarian Dental Travel does not offer teeth whitening as a "stand alone" service except in our London dental surgery.

Whilst the dentist has various products to choose from it is regarded that there is a standard process which the dentist will follow.

Pre-Treatment

The dentist will carry out a pre-treatment evaluation before advising on any dental care. If dental teeth whitening is provided as a treatment, both the Dentist and the dental patient will want to know how effective the procedure has been. To make this comparison the dentist will document what shade the tooth is before proceeding by using a porcelain shade guide. The dentist may decide to take a photograph in addition.
The dentist will then arrange for you to have a professional clean to remove surface stains on the teeth and tartar. This will be followed by polishing the teeth with a soft compound.

Isolation

Bleaching agents used in professional teeth whitening systems are caustic and will irritate or damage soft oral tissue. This means that the Dentist will have to isolate your teeth by using a dental dam.

Your dentist may use one of several dental barrier's such as latex or even a paint on gel which is cured by a light. Cheek retractors may be used to keep the lips away from the area.

Application

Once the dental barrier is applied, eye protection and a bib is put in place the Dentist can apply the bleaching agent. This bleaching agent is then painted on by the dentist and the dental patient will wait a prescribed period of time for activation to take place. Depending on the product used the Dentist may use a curing light to speed up the activation process. Not all dental products are suitable for light activation.

Termination 

Whether treatment runs it's full course or the treatment finishes early due to acute sensitivity, the bleaching agent will be washed off and suctioned whilst you are in the dental surgery.

Post treatment

Just like at the pre-treatment stage, the dentist will evaluate the new shade and document it. If practical the Dentist may ask you to come back a few days later to evaluate and document the result.

The dentist may also feel that fluoride treatment is carried out to minimise sensitivity.

At Home

The dentist may also take impressions of your teeth and make a bleaching tray for you to take home if it is considered necessary.
