vampire fangs hungary

Vampire fangs! Anybody?

This week has gone so fast! Normally, I do write at least 2 blogs a week but not this time. Spring is in the air and I spent most of my time outdoors enjoying the weather.

Anyway, I woke up fairly early this morning and decided to read the news on-line. I was shocked to say the least, when I saw the “vampire woman” on Yahoo’s site… http://uk.news.yahoo.com/vampire-woman-helps-domestic-abuse-victims-111221124.html

This Mexican lady had to suffer abuse for many years and then turned herself into a vampire lookalike. Now she is committed to raise awareness for women suffering from abuse in similar circumstances.

I was reading how she had fangs dentally implanted into her mouth… This is not the first time I came across this. Few years ago we had a dental enquiry from a beautiful model asking if any of our dentists in Hungary would be happy to turn her teeth into fangs. Strange request, I know. Mostly Hungarian dentists would not do such a thing. Not because they are not up for individual request but because they take their profession very seriously and most often say the dental profession is a healthcare and not a fashion business. But our dentist decided to talk to the lady to find out how serious she is about her request and if she is aware of the long term impact and consequences. The patient travelled to Hungary for the dental consultation, spent 3 days in there and came back certain about her decision. In a month time she decided to fly out to Hungary, Budapest and see the dentist this time for treatment and not only consultation. The dentist in Hungary fitted high quality dental veneers, shaped like vampire fangs. In only 1 week time  her teeth were ready and ever-since she has been enjoying wearing them. Few months after this event she recommended Hungarian Dental Travel to her colleagues and we had few more dental enquiries for vampire fangs…

I guess, this is not going to be a booming business and a common request but certainly a very interesting experience…

A smelly kiss? No, thanks!

It seems like we celebrated the New Year only a few weeks ago and Valentine’s Day is already fast approaching!

Never mind! I’m always happy to spend it with my husband, cooking nice meals for each other and cuddling up on the sofa. Yes, this might sound boring to you, but we have been together for over seven years now and after the first few years’ of trying hard to impress period, we appreciate the peace and quiet a lot more.

I was just reading though the Valentine’s Day articles and found this one containing a shocking survey (http://www.dentistry.co.uk/news/4842-Donqapost-let-bad-breath-be-the-kiss-of-death) one in every five people are afraid of smiling just because of the state of their teeth…. Can you imagine a man or a woman trying to go out with you, giving a nice big smile with bad teeth? What would you say?

In the other hand, he probably just can not afford spending thousands of pounds on his smile… The solution can be a romantic break to Hungary, Budapest. There are many dental destinations for those patients, who are looking for affordable dental treatments abroad. But Budapest is considered the Paris of Eastern Europe and home to world-class affordable dentists, as well.

Many surgeries will offer free consultations, some even complimentary scale and polish and offers discounts or special rates on good quality hotel accommodation. So, don’t ditch a potentially great relationship just based on a bad smile or bad breath. Unattractive it is, you should see the person behind it and research for the best solution, in this case maybe a dentist in Hungary.

Flying to Hungary for dental care

Trust Issues Still Drives American Patients to Travel to Hungary for Dental Treatment

Perhaps the most famous place in the world for dental tourism is Hungary. It all began when Austrian people drove a few kilometres across the border into Hungary for dental treatment costing half of the price of dental care in their own country. Since then Hungary has developed a world class infrastructure and platform catering for dental patients travelling from many other countries including a growing number from America.

Hungary still attracts patients from all over the world but other countries still try to mimic what Hungary offers but without as much success. Here is a guide for the American dental tourist:

Many American dental patients still insist on travelling about 5000 miles to Hungary for their dental treatment despite places like Mexico, Costa Rica and India crying out for their business.

Mexico and Costa Rico is much closer to America than Hungary so why does a sizeable amount of American patients still insist on travelling across the Atlantic ocean to Hungary for treatment?

India is an extra 2,500 miles from America than Hungary but offers slightly lower dental costs than Hungary but still some Americans insist on only going to Hungary. Why?

It comes down to quality and trust! Hungary has been building a strong dental infrastructure since the end of the Second World War which cannot yet be rivalled by other countries mimicking dental tourism. In addition Hungary joined the EU in 2004 and the dental industry could boast EU standards in Healthcare. This infrastructure is strong and is the basis of good dental practice, quality dental materials, and high levels of education as well as first class hygiene practices. Unlike India where there are regular reports of dentists practicing with bogus degrees, Hungarian dentists are well qualified and have proven to have outstanding skill in dentistry.

Patients who travel to Hungary know that when they walk out on the street things are safe and civilised. In Mexico, Costa Rica and India safety is a big issue. From the moment that you step out of the airport you have to have your wits about you.

When you have dental treatment a team of people are involved in the success of your treatment. Material manufacturers must supply quality materials to the dental clinic. The dentist you see must be able to communicate with you and provide high quality dental care. The education system is important not only for the dentist’s main qualification but all of the post graduate courses necessary to perform some of the complex procedures required by the dental tourist. Dental Technicians are the unsung heroes. They make your new teeth to perfection. It takes time to produce quality crowns, bridges and dentures that are the right shape, size, colour and shade. Dental nurses and assistants are the ones who not only assist the dentist but they ensure that high levels of infection control are maintained in the clinic.

The guarantees offered by Hungarian dentists are for real and you know that one a price has been set for your treatment then you know that there are no hidden charges or nasty surprises in the final bill.

We all know that low prices are good if quality is maintained and we all know that cheapest is not always the best.

Travelling to Budapest or elsewhere in Hungary for dental treatment is fairly straightforward and safe.

cheap dentist

Fake Dentist offering cheaper services gets suspended sentence

According to Dentistry IQ on-line magazine „Stephen Sickelmore, 52, posed as a qualified professional when he visited patients all over Devon and Cornwall and took impressions of their mouths.”

(see more here http://www.dentistryiq.com/index/display/news-display/1583593297.html)

The guy was a dental technician apprentice once, but his qualifications expired. This was the closest he ever got to being a professional. He advertised int eh Yellow Pages as „The Denture Clinic” and played vulnerable old dental patients out of their money in exchange of wonky dental sets.

„Many patients of his Denture Clinic were left with painful, ill-fitting dentures while others were embarrassed to be seen in public wearing them after teeth chipped or fell out.”- says the article and describes how he was operating in a highly unhygienic mess.

I can’t blame the patients. Many of them would look into cheaper alternative, as not all of them can afford to have fixed dentures or implant supported bridges. As the recession is still growing we all search for better value for money. But as the recession hits on many other countries it is worth considering travelling abroad for some cheap dental work and other services like, opticians, beauticians and hairdressers.

But before anybody would commit  should check out qualifications of the dentists and if they are registered by the General Dental Council in London.

Seven years ago, when Hungarian Dental Travel was established, some of our team members spent few months over in Hungary, spending long hours at the dentists’s surgery in Budapest, Mosonmagyarovar, Gyor,  Sopron, Heviz and around the  Lake Balaton inspecting our possible dental partners’ qualifications, experience, English language knowledge, even their dental technicians’ work to reduce risks for our patients and maintain high quality control. But even if you chose to use a dentist or any dental professional in your home country, make sure you check upon the qualifications.

Save and enjoy money in Hungary

Charlie Sheen and his teeth

I love the Daily Mail! They keep me entertained all the time, even with dental related news.

See the headlines I’m not crazy any more,’ insists Charlie Sheen (but his dental work is still a little haywire)” (Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2084322/Charlie-Sheen-shows-odd-looking-tooth-public-appearance-dentist-trip.html#ixzz1j3ZZ2znq)

No wonder he’d start his make-over at the dentist’s chair. A new set of teeth can take off up to 15 years, but I don’t see any changes on his smile yet…. Reading the comments, I am not alone. He seems to be in between dental appointments and I have no doubt his dentist will get few promotional mentions…. As we know, our celebs love saving on dental bills. So watch this space.

Charlie Sheen might be able to restore his public image, starting at the therapist and the dentist. But many dental patients just can not afford dental fees and unable to provide public mentions.

So what to do if somebody needs a new smile?

Well, there are several options, of course. The National Health Service can provide certain treatments for free or low cost, or taking out a dental insurance can work out in some cases. Many Eastern European dentists are offering consultations and treatments in the UK, Ireland and in the USA, but also travelling for dental treatments could be a very rewarding option.

Especially if dental patients want to experience a different culture and enjoy further savings on other services, like optician, beautician and spa treatments, as they are a lot cheaper in Hungary.

teeth made in hungary

The difference when you see a dentist in Hungary

Dental tourism is still a growing craze in Britain. The recession and the difficulty of finding an affordable dentist driven thousands of dental patients away.

Hungary is one of the longest established dental destinations in the World. Most dental patients are from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Only in the last 7 years people in England and the USA discovered its value in dental tourism.  The specific infrastructure, the history, the technology and the dental education are all highly supporting this dental destination and making it stand out from other countries like Poland, Slovakia and Czech Republic.

Some Hungarian dental clinics are offering dental consultations in England. Not in every case patients meet with the actual dentist, who will be performing the treatments. What is very important for all dental patients is to understand fully the estimated treatment-and price plan.

Dentists in Hungary tend to forward think when it comes to treating patients from abroad. The quality of the treatments and also the type of treatments are being considered based on the fact that the dentist will wish to prevent post-operative complications and lower any potential risks as much as possible.

Few Hungarian clinics offer dental treatments in England, but as good as it sounds, this is not necessarily the best option for everybody. Taking time off work could be an issue, when most treatments need 5-10 working days to complete in Hungary. Having the treatment in England could be a good option, but actually this could also take longer to complete, as appointments are not always so frequent.

Also dental patients need to consider quality over their comfort when deciding on which dental clinic they would trust their teeth on…. Only few surgeries are available in England for treatments, but Hungary is full of highly qualified dental surgeons, not always carrying out intensive marketing, so dental patients might need to carry out a more detailed research to find them. The price of treatment is generally the driving force for those, looking for a dentist abroad, but not always the cheapest is the best nor the most expensive one. Taking years of expertise, qualifications, reputations and recommendations into account would help choosing the right dentist.

Save on dental treatments

Why is it less expensive to have dental treatment in Hungary?

Why is it less expensive to have dental treatment in Hungary?

I am often asked why it is less expensive to have dental treatment in Hungary than in the United Kingdom, Ireland or even the U.S.A. It is very simple! It all boils down to the cost of living being cheaper in Hungary than other parts of the world.

quality costIn Hungary the cost of running a dental clinic is a fraction of the cost of running a dental clinic in Western Europe or America. The Hungarian dentist does not need as much money to run the clinic to a high standard because rent, rates, salaries and tax are proportional and therefore less expensive. The Hungarian dentist does not have to pay receptionists, drivers, dental assistants and dental technicians the high salaries that a British dentist has to, so therefore most treatments can be provided for less cost. This is why dental treatment is generally less expensive in Hungary than elsewhere!

So, the more labour involved in your dental treatment the bigger the price gap between treatment in Hungary compared to prices in your own country. Dental Implants, Crowns and Bridges are the big savers as it takes a dentist time to plan and place your implants into your jawbone and a dental technician must spend days manufacturing your crowns and bridges. Teeth Whitening procedures require very little labour so the price difference between Hungary and your own country may be minimal.

There are some myths about dental treatment in Hungary which I need to clear up. Just because treatment is cheaper in Hungary, dental patients assume that the quality will be lower than what you are used to. Generally, Hungarian dental clinics that cater for the overseas patient are on par with the very best private clinics in your own country. Hygiene levels are generally very high. The equipment and materials bought by Hungarian dentists are the best globally branded products. When you sit in the Hungarian dentist’s dental chair it is more likely to be a relatively new A-dec or Anthos chair system rather than some cheap import. Dental Implants are more likely to be Nobel Biocare, Ankylos, AB or Straumann.

Travelling to Hungary to see a well qualified experienced dentist for less money does not mean that you will receive less quality.
