where to stay

Recommended accommodation in North West Hungary

For Budapest see below.
The clinic is located in the charming town of Mosonmagyarovar, which is very close to the Austrian border and to Bratislava the historical capital of Slovakia. The town is almost overflowing with dentist clinics due to the large number of Austrians in particular who drive over the border to save money on dentistry.

The name of the town looks hard to pronounce, but its not so bad once you get used to it: mosh-on-mag-ya-roh-var, at least that’s how we English speakers do it.

Mosonmagyarovar

Thermal Hotel ***

This 3 star hotel is no more than 2 minutes walk from the clinic. It is a lovely place to stay with very friendly staff, nice rooms, good breakfast and meals, excellent WiFi, and a beautiful hot tub and Sauna room included in the price.

Hungarian Dental Travel clients get a special rate in 2018 from 52 Euros per night for a single person or 70 Euros per night double occupancy.

We have stayed in this hotel ourselves and can certainly recommend it.

Babos Panzio (Bed & Breakfast)

We have also stayed in this small bed and breakfast no more than 4 or 5 minutes walk from the clinic, round the corner from the Thermal hotel and opposite the entrance to the thermal spa complex. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful but has little English, so be prepared. If you don’t speak Hungarian, and who does to be honest outside of Hungary, a few words of German go a long way here!

Breakfast is simple but plentiful and tasty. There is a small shared kitchen. If you have mobility issues you need to ask for a room on the ground floor as the staircase is definitely unsuitable. WiFi is also much stronger on the ground floor.

The cost per person is 20 Euros plus 5 Euros for breakfast or use of the kitchen. For two people the price is 32 Euros. We found the local Tesco supermarket to be excellent for self-caterers. The website is not in English, but if you look at the German version in Google Chrome, the Google translation is perfectly serviceable of course.

Vitalitas Panzio (Bed & Breakfast)

We have not personally stayed in this B&B but it is used extensively by clients of the clinic. It is closer to the shops and restaurants but is still only 450 metres from the clinics – a five minute walk.

The website which does have an English language option informs us that the price per person with breakfast is 34 Euros and for 49 Euros per night for two people. There are six rooms and secure parking opposite.

This establishment garners nothing but excellent 4 and 5 star reviews on Google.

Hotel Latja Park ****

For those looking for the 4 star treatment for all or just part of their stay in Mosonmagyarovar, we can thoroughly recommend the Latja Park.

Rooms are spacious, well-appointed, some with their own kitchen. There are also apartments in a separate building for those wanting yet more space and a bigger kitchen. The food in the restaurant is excellent and there is a spa room underground to unwind in.

The hotel is 350 metres from the clinic, around a 4 minute walk at most.

Prices start at 68 Euros per night for a single room if booked direct, or 82 Euros for a double room. But deals are often available via the usual hotel booking sites such as Expedia, TripAdvisor and Booking.com. It is often possible to save a little by searching via TripAdvisor or your favourite hotel booking site.

Hotels and Apartments in Budapest

The clinic in Budapest is on the Buda (castle) side of the city, in a quiet residential location and not therefore within walking distance of any hotels which can be recommended. Public transport is available but the easiest way to get to and from the clinic is in a friendly taxi.

The following hotels are convenient for both the clinic, local shopping and restaurants, and for the truly excellent public transport links into the heart of Budapest. We don’t have personal experience of any of these hotels yet.

Jagello Business Hotel ***

This hotel is a small (28 room) hotel with generally good reviews (83% excellent or very good) and is close to the MOM shopping centre and opposite a small park. Good transport links by bus or tram, and the metro is only a couple of stops away.

Villa Hotel Kristal ***

Slightly more expensive than the Jagello, and with 78% positive reviews, is this quiet hotel. There are 18 rooms. There are nearby bus stops which take you very quickly down into the centre of Budapest – you will be very impressed by both buses and trams in Budapest if you invest a small amount in a travelcard.

Kis Gellert Guesthouse **

If you are looking to save even more on accommodation, this guesthouse or B&B, is very good value in a quiet residential street but also extremely close to shopping and transport links into the centre of Budapest. It gets 73% positive reviews on TripAdvisor.

You may be able to save money by booking directly with this guesthouse with direct booking prices being from £24 to £33 per night for a standard room without breakfast (£3).

Hotel Charles ***

This is an excellent value 60 room hotel with 88% positive reviews and a very convenient location. Returning to this hotel by bus from the centre of the city could not be easier since the bus stop is literally outside the front door. Guests praise the staff and the breakfast.

Mercure Buda ****

If you are looking for the reassurance of a brand name hotel and one next to a metro station, but without paying top prices, the Mercure hotel next to the Deli Station is worth considering.

Transport links are second to none from this location. It is certainly within walking distance of the castle area, but please do bear in mind there is a steep hill in between which is not apparent if you just look at a map, so if you are wary of this you should hop on the bus!

Apartments in Budapest

Not surprisingly there is a thriving industry in renting out apartments and rooms in Budapest since it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. If you are staying for more than a couple of days and you want the freedom and adventure of having your own place, we’d recommend checking on Airbnb for your dates.

There are simply too many and too much variability in availability to make any specific recommendations, but if you stick to well-reviewed owners who speak English and stay on the Buda side of the city, you stand a good chance of having a great stay.
